Past Simple + Past Continuous birleşik cümlelerde aynı zaman diliminde olan iki olayı bağlamak için when / while / as / just as kullanırız. Kuralın özü:

• Past Continuous = devam eden arka plan eylemi (—yordu)
• Past Simple = anlık/bitmiş olay (—di)

Kısa formül:
While/As/Just as + Past Continuous, Past Simple
When + Past Simple, Past Continuous

1) Hızlı Özet (Kural + Püf Noktası)

• when → genelde anlık/bitmiş olayı başlatır:
  When the lights went out, we were eating dinner.
• while / as / just as → devam eden eylemi başlatır:
  While we were eating, the lights went out.
  As the band was playing, the audience stood up.
  Just as I was leaving, my phone rang. (tam o sırada)
• Virgül: Bağlaçlı yan cümlecik başa gelirse araya virgül koy:
  While she was studying, the kids fell asleep.
  Yan cümlecik arada ise virgül yok:
  She was studying while the kids fell asleep.

2) Yepyeni Örnekler (Türkçe açıklamalı)

1. When + Past Simple (anlık)

• When the manager entered, we were discussing the budget.
  (Müdür içeri girdiğinde, bütçeyi tartışıyorduk.)

2. While + Past Continuous (arka plan)

• While the chef was plating the dishes, the guests arrived.
  (Şef tabakları hazırlarken misafirler geldi.)

3. As + Past Continuous (eşzamanlı)

• As the sun was setting, fishermen returned to the harbor.
  (Güneş batarken balıkçılar limana döndü.)

4. Just as + Past Continuous (tam o sırada)

• Just as I was unlocking the door, someone knocked.
  (Tam kapıyı açıyordum ki biri kapıyı çaldı.)

5. İki continuous birlikte (iki süreç aynı anda)

• While the kids were painting, their parents were chatting in the garden.
  (Çocuklar resim yaparken ebeveynleri bahçede sohbet ediyordu.)

6. Arka plan durumu + anlık kesme

• They were driving through the tunnel when the GPS lost the signal.
  (Tünelden geçiyorlardı ki GPS sinyali kaybetti.)

7. Uzun arka plan + kısa ardışık anlıklar

• I was preparing the slides when the laptop froze and the lights went out.
  (Slaytları hazırlıyordum; laptop dondu ve ışıklar söndü.)

8. Aynı cümleyi farklı bağlaç ve sıralamayla

• She entered the hall while the orchestra was tuning their instruments.
• While the orchestra was tuning their instruments, she entered the hall.
• She entered the hall as the orchestra was tuning…
• As the orchestra was tuning, she entered…
• She entered the hall just as the orchestra was tuning…
• Just as the orchestra was tuning, she entered…

3) Sıralama Dönüşümü (Virgüle dikkat!)

Örnek cümle:
While John was driving home, he saw a great accident.

• He saw a great accident while John was driving home. ✅
  (“while” ortadaysa virgül yok.)

• As the audience was clapping, the singer bowed. ⇄

5) En Sık Yapılan Hatalar (Hızlı Uyarı Listesi)

• ❌ When + -ing:
  When I was cooking ✅ (olur)
  Ama tipik kural: when çoğunlukla Past Simple anlık olayı getirir.
• ❌ İki anlık olayı while ile bağlamak:
  While the bell rang, the class ended → kulağa doğal gelmez.
  When daha uygun: When the bell rang, the class ended.
• ❌ Virgül hatası:
  Bağlaçlı yan cümlecik baştaysa virgül koy:
  While I was driving, it started to rain. ✅
